Preparation is just what you think it is. Being prepared in advance for what you plan to do and what you might do. As a tool, it increases your ability to know in advance what will and can happen and be ready for what might go wrong and what might go right. You do have to prepare for both so that you can switch what you had planned or correct what happened if you need to. It also means that the things you have prepared will go more smoothly when you do them.
You do not need to make extensive preparations although you can do so. If you do, don’t expect it to go the way you expect and use the Decision Trees tool to have alternate plans for whichever way something goes. The more steps you can plan ahead, the better your plans should work. Even if you only plan several things you might do, you will be better off than if you just make everything up as you go along.
